Slope = rate of change.
Slope is typically defined as rise/run. Rise is the difference in the Y values while Run is the difference in the X values.

To find the slope of any line, all you need are two points on the line. Take the points (4, -2) and (-1, -3). Slope is the y values subtracted over the x values subtracted. The point you use first to subtract the y values must also be the point you use first to subtract the x values.

-2 - (-3) = 1
4 - (-1) 5
